How to use Service schema markup

Service structured data describes a service, the provider offering it, and optional details such as service areas and offers. It is based on the Schema.org Service vocabulary.

  1. Enter the service name and the business providing it.
  2. Add a descriptive service type, an accurate page URL, and the areas you actually serve.
  3. Copy the JSON-LD or download it, then add it to the matching service page.
  4. Test the deployed page using the Schema Markup Validator.

Frequently asked questions

What is Service schema?

Service schema is structured data that identifies a service, who provides it, and optional details such as service areas or offers.

Will Service schema guarantee rich results?

No. Correct schema markup does not guarantee Google rich results or higher rankings. Service is a Schema.org type, but it is not a standalone Google rich-result feature.

Can I generate schema for multiple services?

Yes. Create separate markup for each distinct service page, using facts that match that page. Avoid inserting unrelated service descriptions across your entire site.

Is this tool free?

Yes. You can generate, copy, and download JSON-LD without creating an account.

Guide to service structured data

What is Service schema markup?

Service schema markup is structured data that identifies a service a business or person provides. Using schema.org/Service, you can describe its name, category, provider, area served and any real offers associated with it.

A Service schema generator converts those details into machine-readable JSON-LD without requiring you to write the syntax by hand. It is particularly useful for agency services, consulting, accounting, home services and professional service pages.

Structured data is an additional description of your existing content, not a substitute for helpful service-page information. If your page does not clearly explain your offering, generating a large schema block will not solve that problem.

Choose the right schema type

Service vs. LocalBusiness vs. ProfessionalService

These terms describe different things. The generator always builds a Service object and lets you select an appropriate provider type.

Service

The work being offered

Example: Tax Preparation, Drain Cleaning, Web Design

LocalBusiness

A local provider offering the work

Example: A plumbing company serving a city or region

ProfessionalService

A more specific type of local provider

Example: A local professional firm when the type fits

Practical setup

How to generate and add Service JSON-LD

1

Describe the real service

Enter the exact service name, description and service page URL that visitors can see.

2

Identify the provider

Choose a genuine business or person and add accurate contact and identity links.

3

Copy the correct format

Use HTML for a standard website, JSON-LD for an integration or Next.js for App Router.

4

Install and validate

Add it only to the relevant page. Test the deployed output with Schema Markup Validator.

Add Service schema in Next.js

Select the Next.js output tab in the generator. Add the generated component to the relevant App Router page and render it from that page's component. Keep the same data as the visible service description and avoid rendering duplicate blocks.

If your project already centralizes organization schema, you can later connect the service provider by using a consistent identifier. Keep the source of truth for service details in your actual application data.

Add Service schema in WordPress

Choose the HTML output tab. Add the generated script to the specific service page using your theme or a reputable custom-code solution. Check whether your SEO plugin already outputs Service markup first so you do not introduce contradictory duplicates.

After publishing, inspect the page source or rendered HTML and test the live page in Schema Markup Validator.

Add Service schema in Webflow or Wix

Use your platform's custom code or structured data settings for the relevant service page. Paste the HTML script block if the interface expects code, or the raw JSON-LD object if it specifically asks for JSON. Confirm which format the field expects.

Re-publish the site, then inspect the live output. Do not assume the code is deployed merely because the editor accepted it.

Verify the right thing

The Schema Markup Validator can inspect Service markup. Google's Rich Results Test checks eligibility for Google's supported rich result types.

A Service object can be valid Schema.org markup without producing a dedicated Google rich-result preview.

Quality checklist

Common Service schema mistakes to avoid

Using Service as the provider type

The Service object describes the offering. The provider should generally be a real Organization, LocalBusiness, relevant subtype, or Person.

Publishing prices that are not actually offered

Only add an Offer when the details match what customers can see. Use a minimum price rather than an exact price when the page says starting from.

Listing cities the company does not serve

Use areaServed for real coverage, not a list of every city you want to rank in. It does not create additional business locations.

Expecting automatic rich results

Generic Service schema does not currently have its own Google rich-result feature. Validation and rich-result eligibility are different things.

Adding schema for unrelated services

Keep the markup relevant to the service the page actually explains. Avoid site-wide duplication of every service on every page.

Creating invalid or misleading details

Check absolute URLs, accurate provider information, coherent pricing, and whether any existing plugin emits conflicting structured data.

Questions answered

Service Schema Generator FAQs

What is Service schema markup?+

Service schema is structured data that describes an offering, including the service name, type, provider, geographic coverage and optional pricing. It uses the Schema.org Service type and is commonly written in JSON-LD.

Is the Service Schema Generator free?+

Yes. You can generate, copy and download your code without creating an account. The form runs in your browser and does not submit your service details to a server.

Does Service schema make Google show rich snippets?+

No. Google currently does not offer a standalone rich-result feature for generic Service schema. Markup can help describe information clearly, but valid markup does not guarantee a rich result, higher ranking or AI citation.

What is the difference between Service and ProfessionalService schema?+

Service describes the offering. ProfessionalService is a subtype of LocalBusiness and can describe the company providing that offering. You can use Service as the main type and ProfessionalService within the provider object when it accurately fits the business.

What is serviceType in Service schema?+

serviceType is a property inside a Service object, used to label the kind of service, such as Tax Preparation or Web Design. It is not a replacement for the Service type in @type.

Can I add a price or starting price?+

Yes, when the price is real and visible to customers. A fixed price can use Offer.price. For a genuine starting price, this generator uses PriceSpecification.minPrice so it does not represent the minimum as a guaranteed fixed price.

Can I use Service schema for a local business?+

Yes. A service page can describe a Service with a LocalBusiness or ProfessionalService provider, where appropriate. Use areaServed only for places where the business actually provides the service.

How do I test Service JSON-LD?+

Use Schema Markup Validator to test the markup, then inspect the live page to ensure it is present and matches visible information. Google Rich Results Test does not provide a dedicated Service result preview.

Should each service page have its own schema?+

A distinct service page can have markup describing the service featured on that page. Avoid repeating unrelated services or publishing duplicate, contradictory Service objects without a clear purpose.
